Yolanda Rochelle Robinson-Flowers is an American politician who is running for the highest office in Alabama state. After claiming her victory in the Democratic runoff last June, Yolanda Flowers became the first black female candidate ever to get the nomination to run for the governor position in the state.

Born in 1961, Yolanda belonged to a humble and hard-working family who taught her the significance and the ethics of hard work. Her parents, Mr and Mrs McConnell Robinson, raised Yolanda with her sibling's presence in Birmingham city in the 70s. Her birth occurred at The Holy Family Hospital based in Birmingham, Alabama.

To her family and herself, Education meant everything to become a better citizen, have a respectful career, and shape a better society for now and future generations. 

Yolanda Flower's Academic Qualification

As a result, her academic background is quite impressive. To begin with, Yolanda joined Birmingham Public School System to pursue her early education. In 1978, she graduated from Woodlawn High School. After high school, Yolanda gave herself an academic break and decided to get married and raise a family. She dropped out of college to raise her kids.

The rehabilitation counselor furthered her education as she enrolled in Maryville College of Maryville, Tennessee. She has earned versatile academic degrees. Alabama's Governor candidate earned her Associate of Arts degree in Speech Therapy from Pellissippi State Technical Community College. in 2004.

Furthermore, she attended the University of Tennessee of Knoxville in 2007 to pursue her Bachelor's degree in Audiology. The following year, she earned her master's degree in Rehabilitation Counselling from the University of Tennessee and became a graduate in 2009.

Democratic Governor Nominee Had A Thriving Career

Yolanda Flowers began her career as Reading Instructor for the Blount County School System. She served in Blount County for two decades, helping students at risk of failing their school. 
While working in academia, her role varied from time to time as she worked as Rehabilitation Specialist, Assistant Speech Pathologist, Language Assistant, and Reading Instructor for schools in Blount County and Alcoa City.

In addition, Yolanda worked for the State of Tennessee under the rehabilitation service division as a Rehabilitation Specialist and Counselor for several years. If we talk about her most recent working experience, she was a full-time substitute teacher for the Birmingham City School System, where she worked for three years in 2016.
Her multiple yet versatile academic degrees allowed her to work in several departments throughout her career. Among these, helping students or any individual for that matter, transition into the employment world was her main work.

First Black Female Running For Alabama Governor's Office

On June 11, 2022, Flowers made history as she secured herself a spot as a Democratic representative for 2022 Alabama's gubernatorial race.

After defeating her runaway opponent, State Senator Malika Sander-Fortier, Flowers became the first black female Alabamian to win a seat in the forthcoming general election on November 8, 2022. Birmingham pride accumulated more than 55.1% of votes, while Sander Fortier lost to Yolanda by almost 10% of the total votes.

The win advanced her to the ballot in the general election on November 8. As the first black female nominee for the governor, Flowers will face a competitive battle against the current governor, Kay Ivey, who has been ruling the state since 2017.

During her campaign and debate, Yolanda promised the people of Alabama that she would bring reconstructional change to the state's healthcare, criminal justice, economy, and education. As she worked in special education and vocational program, her main goal in the education sector is to bring early change and psychological evaluation in place so that the specific needs of students are understood and met.

Who Is Yolanda Flowers Husband

Around the 1980s, Yolanda decided to get married to a young man. The exact date of her marriage is not confirmed; however, we know that Yolanda Flowers got married to a young and local Birmingham man named Curtis Lynn Flowers. Curtis and Yolanda shared a romantic relationship before they shared wedding vows in the 80s.
As the couple wanted to start a family, a few years after the marriage, they gave birth to their first child, whose identity is unknown to the media.
The pair were blessed with three children in their union. Altogether, they now have twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren with whom they share a loving relationship.
