William Murray is famous for being the father of renowned tennis player Andy Murray. He is the manager of the Scottish network of newsstands RS McColl.

As Andy is playing in Canadian Open, his father and mother are spotted supporting Andy. Besides this, let's know more about his father, sister, and Canadian open champ.

Who Is Tennis Player Andy Murray's Father William Murray?

Unlike their mother, Judy, Andy, and Jamie Murray's father, William has maintained a low profile during his sons' tennis careers. But despite his divorce from their mother, their father is said to have maintained a similar level of involvement in the lives of the two-time Wimbledon champion and his brother Jamie.

William Murray, a native of Dunblane, is the regional manager for the Scottish network of newsstands, RS McColl. William wed Judy Erskine in 1980 in a private ceremony. The Murray couple later had two children: Jamie, born in 1986, and Andy, born in 1987. But after nine years of separation from the marriage, the couple decided to get divorced in 2005.

William claims that Jamie and Andy were shocked to learn about the divorce. The Daily Record quoted him as saying: "I had to let them know that their mother was moving out. Having to hurt them by telling them what I did tore me apart. They were upset," He added.

But despite the impression that Andy and Jamie Murray were closer to their mother Judy in the public eye, the two remained with their father after their parents' divorce. In 2009, William claimed that he "kept the family home and took care of them throughout the following four to five years."

The separation of the Murray parents was contentious. They "didn't communicate too much, and they didn't get along very well with each other... they are just two different personalities," Andy Murray told The Telegraph in 2007. He also mentioned how intensely competitive the two were, including the kids.

In 2016, Andy and Jamie Murray attended their father's wedding to his longtime partner Sam Watson at a posh Dunblane hotel.

Jamie was born in Glasgow, Scotland's capital city, in February 1986. The pro tennis player is the son of William Murray and Judith Murray. He was raised in Dunblane, where he first attended the Dunblane Primary School before moving on to St. Faith's School, where he barely stayed for eight months before returning home.

Andy Murray Canadian Open Champ

In Montreal, rising American Taylor, Fritz defeated former No. 1 Andy Murray in a commanding fashion. The 35-year-old three-time grand slam champion couldn't compete with his opponent, who won the first set 6-1 before clinching the 6-3. Better news for the British came from victories for Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie.

Andy Murray was eliminated from the Canadian Open after losing to Taylor Fritz 6-1, 6-3. Due to inclement weather, the first-round match between the former world No. 1 and Fritz had to be postponed until Monday.

After finally taking the court 24 hours later, the Americans had the better day, dominating Montreal with 29 wins.

Fritz broke the Brit on his fifth break point to take a 2-0 lead after holding to love in his first service game. After Murray finally got on the scoreboard, the 6'4" Fritz accelerated away from his challenger, holding to love on two other service games and serving out the set.

It was much closer in the second set, with Murray maintaining his lead in the contest until he was broken at 4-3 after hitting a forehand into the net. Murray lost his cool and threw his racket into the court; nonetheless, Fritz held and broke again to win the match despite Murray rallying to force a breakpoint in the next game.

Fritz will now compete against fellow American Frances Tiafoe, who defeated Benjamin Bonzi in three sets. Another British player, Cameron Norrie, defeated Brandon Nakashima 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour and 14 minutes after suffering the setback of losing the Los Cabos Open final days earlier.

Stan Wawrinka loses the first set to Andy Murray 7-6 (3) in CincyTennis. Murray served incredibly well and finished the tiebreak with a daring up-the-line backhand shot.
