Rose Swisher was the ex-wife of American basketball legend Bill Russell who died on July 31, 2022, at his home while his family was beside him.

She passed away at the age of 78 in 2014. She was Bill's first love, and they shared their married life for 20 years before getting a divorce in 1973.

Rose died eight years ago because of her health problems. She was his college love, whom he loved with his heart out. They were married in 1956, a magical moment for the couple as they recalled the memories multiple times in the past. Daughter Karen Russell, a lawyer and television pundit, and boys William Jr. and Jacob were their three children.

The couple separated after becoming emotionally distant from one another in 1973. He married his second wife, Miss USA 1968, Dorothy Anstett, in 1977. Unfortunately, their marriage also couldn't last long as the two separated in 1980.

Then, Russell wed Marilyn Nault, his third wife, in 1996; they were together until her passing in January 2009. At the time of his death, Russell was wed to Jeannine Russell. He spent more than forty years living on Mercer Island in Washington.

Russel had three children only with his first wife. They have established themselves in their respective fields. All his family members, including his kids, were present during the last hours of basketball legend. His family members reported his demise via his Twitter page on July 31, 2022.

He participated in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1956 to 1969 as a center for the Boston Celtics. He was the core of the Celtics era and won 11 NBA titles over his 13-year career. He was a five-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a 12-time NBA All-Star.

He captained the United States gold-medal-winning basketball team at the 1956 Summer Olympics and led the San Francisco Dons to two consecutive NCAA titles in 1955 and 1956. According to many, Russell is one of the best basketball players of all time.

Russell is one of the most accomplished and respected athletes in the history of North American athletics. His feats and accomplishments include eleven NBA titles in thirteen seasons with the Boston Celtics, two of which he won while serving as player-coach.

He is recognized for elevating defensive play in the NBA to a new level. In high school, he also captured two state titles. Russell earned a gold medal at the 1956 Olympics in the interim. As the first black head coach in major American professional sports when he succeeded Red Auerbach, his tenure as Celtics coach was also historically significant.
