John Metchie is a Canadian football player who has recently been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.

Metchie is currently playing in the National Football League after being drafted by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He is a very talented football player.

John won the Jon Cornish trophy twice when he was playing college football. His sophomore year in 2020 saw him emerge as one of Alabama's top three receivers, accumulating 916 yards on 55 catches and scoring six touchdowns.

What Happened To John Metchie? Did He Suffer An Injury?

John has recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with a form of Leukemia called Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. This has resulted in him sitting out of this season's matches. He has not suffered any injuries.

His latest diagnosis will force him to put football on hold while he concentrates on his health and starts his therapy. He released a statement through the Texans talking about his recent diagnosis.

Metchie explained that the Leukemia he has is the most curable form of Leukemia. So after the treatment, he will recover as well. The Texans decided to put the receiver on the active/non-football sickness list on Sunday following his latest diagnosis.

The Texans receiver received a lot of good wishes, and other prominent NFL players expressed their prayers and support for him. Metchie will completely shift his attention to his health and will be sitting out on football this season. 

Does John Metchie Have Leukemia?

John does have a form of Leukemia called Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. However, this Leukemia is the most curable form of Leukemia so as long as John goes through his treatment, he will recover very soon.

Metchie joined the Crimson Tide as a four-star recruit in the 2019 class and played his final three seasons there. With the 44th overall choice in this year's NFL Draft, the Texans selected him.

Last year, as a junior at Alabama, Metchie was second on the team in receiving yards with 1,142 and eight touchdowns while also leading the Crimson Tide with 96 catches. Additionally, he grabbed the game-winning two-point convert as Alabama defeated Auburn in the Iron Bowl after four overtimes.

He tore his ACL on December 4 during the SEC Championship Game versus Georgia the previous year, ending his season. He was, however, anticipated to be available to play at the beginning of the season.

Who Are John Metchie Family Members?

On July 18, 2000, Metchie was born in Taiwan to a Nigerian father and a Taiwanese mother. When he was a young child, his family relocated to Accra, Ghana.

Later, his mother and four brothers went to Brampton, Canada, but his father stayed in Ghana. After that, he relocated to the US to enroll in St. James School in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Metchie attended the Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey, for one year after graduating before deciding to play collegiate football for the University of Alabama. His parents were always supportive of his career choices and his hobbies.

Considering he was very athletic from a young age, his parents supported his interest in sports. Today at just 22 years old, he is already playing football professionally.

His parents could not be prouder of all his achievements and how far he has come in his career as a football player.
