American actor, producer, and director James Brolin is best known for his work in soap operas, comedies, movies, and television. He is Barbra Streisand's spouse and the father of actor Josh Brolin.

James was born Craig Kenneth Bruderlin in Los Angeles, California, to his father, Henry Bruderlin, a builder, and mother, Helen Sue, a housewife. The marvel actor was the oldest of four children, two brothers and two sisters. After his birth, the family moved to Westwood. When he was younger, he didn't seem as interested in acting as he was in animals and airplanes.

Brolin started making model airplanes when he was ten years old in 1950 and was taught how to fly them. He was particularly enthralled by actor James Dean when he was an adolescent moviegoer in the mid-1950s. He met Ryan O'Neal, a fellow actor, and classmate roughly a year younger than Brolin when his parents invited a director over to their house for dinner before an audition. The two hit it off while attending Los Angeles' exclusive University High School.

When Brolin received his high school diploma in 1958, his family had already encouraged him to pursue a career in acting like O'Neal, and he started his career as an actor on an episode of Bus Stop in 1961.

From 1988 through 1994, Brolin was married to actress Alice Adair; their two children, son Trevor and daughter Eden are both actors. Josh was engaged to actress Minnie Driver for six months, but he wed Diane Lane, an actress, on August 15, 2004. In 2013, Brolin and Lane were divorced.

Talking about his legal issues, Brolin was detained on a misdemeanor allegation of domestic assault on December 20, 2004, after an argument with his then-wife, Diane Lane, who had phoned the police. Lane declined to file a complaint, and a spokeswoman for the couple described the incident as a misunderstanding.

Brolin, actor Jeffrey Wright, and five other men who were W crew members were detained on July 12, 2008, following a brawl at the Stray Cat Bar in Shreveport, Louisiana. Brolin was released after paying a cash bond of $334.

James Brolin changed his last name from "Bruderlin" to "Brolin" when he turned 20. A deal with 20th Century Fox was one he agreed to. He met future actor Clint Eastwood while still in school and trying to break through to the big time.
