The school board of the Texas city of Uvalde sacked Pete Arredondo, the police chief of the local schools, on Wednesday. After the superintendent of the local school system made the recommendation, the board voted unanimously to fire the troubled chief.

The resignation of Arredondo brings to an end three months of protest over the inept police reaction to the massacre at Robb Elementary School, which resulted in the deaths of 19 students and two teachers.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw has stated that the duration between the moment police entered the facility on May 24 and the gunman's death was one hour, 14 minutes, and eight seconds.

A few weeks prior to the Robb Elementary School shooting on May 24, which left 19 children and two teachers dead, Pete Arredondo, the chief of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District police department, had been elected to the City Council.

He took the oath of office in secret and has not appeared at any council meetings since. The resignation of Arredondo was initially reported by the Uvalde Leader-News.

Even though resigning was "the right thing to do," the city claimed in an unsigned statement on Saturday afternoon that it had not received formal notice from Arredondo despite learning of his plans from the Leader-News article.

An hour later, the city claimed to have received Arredondo's resignation letter and made it available to the public.

In the letter, Arredondo stated that, "After careful consideration, it is in the best interest of the community to resign as a member of the City Council for District 3 to reduce further distractions."

"The Mayor, City Council, and City Staff must keep working to bring our community back together.

Nearly a month after taking office, confused Texas Police Chief Pete Arredondo resigned from his position on the Uvalde City Council. According to his outward look, as of 2022, he is about 50 years old.

The meeting was called to discuss Arredondo's job, but he did not show up. Arredondo's attorney claimed in a statement that his client had received death threats and didn't feel the meeting was secure.

It is "without any doubt," according to the attorney George Hyde, "that termination from public employment under circumstances that put the employee's reputation, honor, or integrity in jeopardy gives rise to a liberty interest" under the equal protection provision of the Constitution.

Why Pete Arredodon Fired By Uvalde School?

On Wednesday, the Uvalde school board unanimously decided to terminate Pedro "Pete" Arredondo, the police chief who had been accused of botching the reaction to the shooting at Robb Elementary that left 19 pupils and two teachers dead.

After more than an hour of discussion behind closed doors and a written request for Arredondo's reinstatement from his attorneys, the decision was made.

Since learning that Arredondo delayed ordering cops to approach the shooter and instead spent over an hour obtaining equipment and attempting to obtain a key to the room, which was thought to have been unlocked, the community has been asking for his dismissal.

When Arredondo's termination was authorized, the audience erupted in cheers. The Uvalde native, who created the district's active-shooter tactics, had been in charge of the six-person police unit since March 2020.

According to those instructions, Arredondo was supposed to name himself incident commander, but a Texas House committee investigation into the massacre found that he did not do so on May 24.
