When Jake Wightman of Great Britain won the gold medal in the 1,500-meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, his father, Jake Wightman, made a comment about it.

On Tuesday night, Wightman, 28, won the world championship by a razor-thin margin in Eugene. His father and coach Geoff announced at Hayward Field.

He defeated Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the Olympic champion, and Mohamed Katir of Spain to win in three minutes, 29.23 seconds.

A video that went viral on social media showed dad Geoff calling the race's final straight while his son and Ingebrigtsen jostled for the place. Who Is Geoff Wightman? Meet Jake Wightman Dad 

Geoff Wightman is the father of well-known British middle-distance runner Geoff Wightman. He is a prominent former British marathon runner, writer, and coach. 

The former athlete completed the marathon in 2:13:17 and is presently serving as Jake's head coach.

Geoff finished eighth when representing England in the 1990 Commonwealth Games Marathon in Auckland. He has worked at the London Marathon and the British Championships and also announces athletics competitions and marathons.

Geoff served as the stadium announcer at the 2019 World Doha, the 2017 London Olympics, the New York Marathon, and other events. He worked full-time at Scottish Athletics and then United Kingdom Athletics until 2016.

 In addition, he has published a novel titled "London Calling." He presently mentors his son Jake Wightman, Crowe-Wright, and Ben Waterman.

British long-distance runner Susan is now retired. She competed for Wales and placed sixth in the 10,000-meter race at the Commonwealth Games in 1986.

When she placed 12th in the marathon at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, she established her personal best of 2:31:33.

She ran 69:46 to come second behind Greta Waitz at the 1988 Great North Run, making history as the first British woman to complete a half-marathon in less than 70 minutes. The UK record remained at this time until Liz McColgan ran 69:15 in 1991.
