Denver-based drag artist & fashion designer Yvie Oddly has opened up about having a chronic illness in interviews.

After winning the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2019, Yvie Oddly, an American drag queen, performer, fashion designer, rapper, and recording artist from Denver, Colorado, gained worldwide recognition.

She later made a comeback to compete in the all-winners seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in 2022. Oddly, she has been touring with Werq the World drag shows since 2019.

In Yvie Oddly's Oddities, a series on WOW Presents Plus, she explores what she believes to be the transformational power of drag in addition to music videos and performances by turning thrift shop purchases into wearable artwork. Drag Trap, her first album, was released in 2020.

Yvie Oddly Illness And Health Condition

According to the source, drag queen Yvie Oddly has type 3 Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos disease.

She received criticism in July 2019 for refusing to take pictures after performances, citing a need to rest. She later noted that she needed to set limits. Because of the persistent discomfort caused by her hereditary illness Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), she skips the post-show selfie in favor of deeper conversations.

Oddly had a high learning curve to turn every facet of her drag art into a business after competing on Drag Race, let alone winning.

She was also compelled to reassess her physical capabilities to continue providing her fans with a drag experience while putting her body through extreme physical strain during performances.

She has found a happy community of people with 'hEDS' and other invisible disabilities who name themselves 'zebras,' as they have more unusual ailments than doctors expect. This is thanks to her elevated status.

The artist forgoes post-show photo opportunities in favor of more fulfilling relationships because her condition and the continuous discomfort from her "bones grinding" leave her exhausted after the performance.

What Happened To Yvie Oddly?

Yvie Oddly tweeted her thoughts on coping with the Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos condition that damages her connective tissue after World of Wonder published footage of Friday's (22 July) energetic talent show performance.

Despite having "a group of hereditary disorders that damage your connective tissues," as described by the Mayo Clinic, Yvie constantly keeps her chin up. She also hasn't given up.

Patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome may have delicate skin, twisted ankles, and too-flexible joints. The Mayo Clinic explains that if a patient ever has a wound, it may be difficult to stitch them up since "the skin often isn't robust enough" to do so.

Similar to this, the most common symptoms of Ehler-Danlos syndrome include joint hypermobility, tissue fragility, and skin extensibility. In a 2019 interview with Out, Oddly admitted that she had never wanted to talk about her sickness on the program.

Yvie Oddly Ethnicity

Yvie Oddly is a mix of Native American, Caucasian, and Black people. In drag pageants and leather competitions, Oddly's victory is the most recent in a string of victories by black queer and trans people, marking a turning point for the LGBTQ communities.

She believes that the contributions made by gay people of color to queer culture have not received enough recognition. She also adds, "there's been a lot of discussion about my race, whether or not I'm Black, and whether or not colorism is at work."

She decided to dress up out of rage over being treated disrespectfully by the LGBT community because she is Black. Unusually, she is the grandchild of Lauren Watson, the commander of the Denver Black Panthers.

She performs as a drag queen and is the drag sister of Willow Pill, the champion of RuPaul's Drag Race's 14th season. You can find Yvie on Instagram as @oddlyyvi. She is very active there and has gained more than 1m followers.
